Chemical and Volume Control System Flashcards
Identify the primary functions of the Chemical and Volume Control System.
1.Maintain chemistry, purity and activity levels in the RCS within prescribed limits to minimize:The corrosion rate of the RCS piping/equipment
The fouling of heat transfer surfaces
Radiation exposure to personnel during maintenance
2.Maintain the required volume of water in the RCS, compensating for expansion and contraction due to temperature changes and leakage up to the capacity of the Charging Pumps.
3.Control Reactor Coolant System boron concentration
4.Provides for dilution and boron addition
5.Emergency Boration to the Reactor Coolant System on Safety Injection Actuation Signal (SIAS)
6.Provide an independent means of reactivity control, which is not control rods
Identify the function of the Regenerative Heat Exchanger
Conserves Reactor Coolant System thermal energy by heating the CHARGING stream using the LETDOWN stream as heat source.
Identify the function of the Letdown Heat Exchanger
Reduces Letdown temperature to protect the resins in the Purification Ion Exchangers
Identify the function of the Volume Control Tank
Reservoir of water for makeup to the Reactor Coolant System
Positive suction head for charging pumps
Provides a Water to Hydrogen gas interface for Oxygen absorption.
Collects Reactor Coolant Pump Controlled Bleedoff
Identify the function of the Charging Pumps
Supply Reactor Coolant System with inventory to maintain Pressurizer level
Identify the following flow paths:
a. Letdown from the Reactor Coolant System to the Volume Control Tank
b. Charging from the Volume Control Tank to the Reactor Coolant System
