Chedy - theme 9 Flashcards
Ganglia of the PNS:
Mostly from the top and bottom. Medulla oblongata and brain, plus some from lower tip of spinal cord.
Actions of the PNS:
SLUDDSA
Salivation, lacrimation, urination, defecation, digestion, and sexual arousal
Types of effects of ACh:
Nicotinic and muscarinic.
Nicotinic ACh effect:
Postsynaptic of skeletal muscle and CNS. Stimulated by nicotine and ACh. Mediated by nAChRs. Ionotropic because permeable to Na, K, Cl. Two main types: muscle type (selectively blocked by curare) and neuronal type (selectively blocked by hexamethonium).
Muscarinic ACh effect:
Mediated by mAChRs. Expressed mainly in postganglionic PNS terminals of exocrine glands and smooth/cardiac muscles.
Cholinergic stimulation of mAChRs:
M1 - expressed in neural system
M3 - expressed in organs and tissues
Cholinergic inhibition of mAChRs:
M2 - expressed in heart
M4, idk what that does
ACh release in the ANS: *check against lecture 8
All pregang neurons (symp and parasymp), all postgang parasymp
This lecture generally needs a lot of review and textbook reading probably
i hate this a lot
