What is EBP?
Evidence based medicine is the explicit conscientious and Judicious attempt to find the best possible available research evidence to assist to help professionals to make the best decision for the individual clients
What is the purpose of EBP? And why is it so important
The purpose of EBP Is to assist with clinical decision-making
Is important because it aims to provide the most effective care that is available, with the aim of improving client outcomes
It promotes an attitude of inquiry and help professionals e.g. why am I doing this in this week? What evidence supports what I am doing?
Ensures health resources are used wisely and that relevant evidence is considered when decisions are made about funding health services
What are the five steps in EBP?
Converting the information you need Into an answerable question
Find the best possible evidence to answer your question
Critically appraise the evidence for the validity, impact and applicability
Integrate the evidence with clinical expertise, the clients values and circumstances, and information for the practice context
Evaluate effectiveness and efficiency with which steps 1-4 were carried out
