Why is setting goals important for patient?

A

Guides their treatment plan so that the specified outcome is achieved evaluating the effectiveness of their treatment plan.

Also helps the patient to increase adherence to the treatment plan which leads to

  • improved outcomes
  • enchancing patient autonomy
  • motivation can only come from client

A

Specific- Answers the question Who, what, where, and any other details. Who- the patients name should be included in goal what does the patient want to do want to achieve where is there a specific location of where to go will be achieved

What does measurable goal setting mean ?

A

Answers the question how? The proof of how you know if the patient has achieved the goal. For example Annie will cycle to university once a week for a month. Measurable Is if she did/did not achieve it

What does achievable goal setting mean?

A

Is it possible to reach the school by the deadline?

In order for a goal to be achieved, it needs to be realistic challenging goals, which might be difficult to achieve, tend to result in higher levels of performance on work tasks and goals are easily achievable

What does relevant goal setting mean?

A

Is this the right time to work on it? Is this goal worthwhile? Those to go matter to the patient and therapist? Is the go something the patient wants to work towards? Does it gonna matter to them?

What does time bound mean in goal setting?

A

The patient will reach that goal by what dates or time frame? This is best specified by date rather than the length of time for example by February 2013 rather than in three months time
