Dissociative Disorders
When memory or identity is temporarily altered and includes all DID disorders
Dissociative Amnesia
Loss of ability to recall important personal information because of stress and is not seen in DID
Fugue
Sudden and unexpected travel away from home and forgetting one’s pass and personal identity
Explicit Memory
Memory involving the conscious recall of experiences and is an area of deficits typically seen in DID
Implicit Memory
Memory that underlines behavior, but is based on experience that cannot be consciously recalled
Depersonalization/Derealization Disorder
When people feel unreal and engage from themselves and feel things around them have changed in size or that they are observing themselves from a distance
Dissociative Identity Disorder
Presence of two or more distinct personalities that recurrently control an individual’s behavior
Post-traumatic Model
Theory that DID comes from traumatic childhood experience
Sociocognitive Model
Theory that DID comes from socially reinforced multiple role enactments
