What is attending behaviour and how is it shown?
It is listening. It is shown through eye contact, body language, vocal style, and verbal following.
What is eye contact in terms of listening?
Consistent eye contact with natural breaks; no staring.
What is attentive body language?
The basic attentive listening posture is a slight lean forward that is relaxed.
What is vocal style in terms of listening?
A natural and calm vocal tone. It communicates your emotions.
What is verbal following?
Responding to what the client just said or said earlier in the session in a natural way.
What is selective attention?
When a client expresses a number of different feelings or problems, selective attention is which specific one you address.
Why is it important to be aware of selective attention?
To notice and remain aware of the topics that you avoid or focus on. It helps you to find your natural style.
What is the most important thing to pay attention to?
The clients feelings and thoughts.
What is movement synchrony?
When you mirror the body language of the client.
Why is movement synchrony important?
It shows the client and yourself that you are truly listening.
