Pain
Core Temperature
Environment in which organs are being subjected to
Normal Body Temp
97.6-99.6 F
Cardiac Output
The volume of blood pumped from the heart in 1 minute
Pulse
The fluid wave that can be palpated at various points in the body as gentle tapping
Hypothermia
A core temperature below 95F slows body metabolism
Stroke Volume
The amount of blood discharged from the L ventricle with each contraction
Antipyretic
Fever-Reducing
Febrile
Indicates the state of having a fever
Afebrile
Indicates the state of being without a fever
Phaygocytes
Specialized blood cells, that secretes pyrogens
Hyperthermia
Serious temperature elevation about 105F
Average Body Temperature
98.6F
Pulse Rate
60-100 bpm
Pulse Rythm
Regular or Irregular
Pulse Volume
0 no pulse/absent
- thready
+1 weak
+2 normal
+3 bounding
Pulse Deficit
When radial pulse is slower than the apical pulse
Perfuse
The force of the heart’s contraction fails to produce a pulse wave strong enough to be felt
Temporal
On side of forehead, the temple
Carotid
Side of neck below jaw
Brachial
Elbow where stethoscope goes for BP, pinky side
Radial
Thumb side inside of wrist, used for pulse rate assesment
Femoral
Used to determine circulation to leg, located in groin
Popliteal
Back of knee, towards midline, determines circulation to lower leg
Posterior Tibial
Used to determine circulation to foot, located interior ankle behind the bone
Auscultate
To listen attentively
