Emotional: we want to know that no matter the situation or whatever we do that there will always be someone around to take care of us.

Social: provide us with the feeling of belonging

explain how first impressions, stereotyping and prejudices influence our perception of others?

A

first impressions: the first impressions we have on another person may have a strong impact on our future interactions with them. Leads to prejudice. Our fist impressions come from remarks made by others around us.

–prejudice: judging a book by its cover. We prejudge a person or group of people prior to having all known info and facts.

Stereotyping: Preconceived, inaccurate beliefs about an individual or group of people. contributes more than other factor in determining our prejudices. Disrespectful attitude towards others.

–problems of prejudice: discrimination, categorization, attributions etc.

Explain the attribution process?

A

Shows that we frequently over-estimate the influence of a person’s personality and under-estimate the impact of the situation he or she is in

–the attribution process allows us to make sense out of other peoples actions, figure out their attitudes and personality traits by predicting their behavior.
