Special Offenders
offenders whose circumstances, conditions, or behaviors require management or treatment outside of the normal approach
Blended sentencing
middle ground between juvenile and adult sentences that allow judges to choose a broad array of sanctions
Straight adult incarceration
form of incarceration in which juveniles handled by adult courts are placed in adult prisons with no differentiation
Graduated incarceration
juveniles handled by adult courts are placed in juvenile facilities until they reach the age of 18 and then transferred to adult prison
Segregated incarceration
juveniles handled by adult courts are housed in adult prison but segregated and placed in specialized programs
Antipsychotic drugs
drugs given to mentally ill individuals to counteract the symptoms of their illness allowing them to successfully live in the community
Medical parole
placing aging or disabled inmates in a nursing home or hospital to receive care while still serving their sentence
Containment model
approach to managing sex offenders that includes treatment to develop internal control over deviant thoughts, supervision, and surveillance of behaviors; polygraph examinations to monitor conformance
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
a virus that attacks the body’s immune system, increasing the chance or infection and other diseases
