Chapter 9 Learning (1) Flashcards
Learning
A relatively permanent change in behavior that results from experience.
Classical conditioning
A learning procedure in which associations are made between a natural stimulus and a learned, neutral stimulus.
Neutral stimulus
A stimulus that does not initially elicit a response
Unconditioned stimulus
An event that elicits a certain predictable response without previous training
Uncondtioned response
An organisms automatic or natural reaction to a stimulus
Conditioned stimulus
A once neutral event that elicits a given response after a period of training in which it has been paired with an unconditioned stimulus
Conditioned response
The learned reaction to a conditioned stimulus
Generalization
Responding similarly to a range of similar stimuli
Discrimination
The ability to respond differently to similar but distinct stimuli
Extinction
The gradual disappearance of a conditioned response when the conditioned stimulus is repeatedly presented without the unconditioned stimulus.
Spontaneous recovery
When you start to get the conditioned response again after not having it for a period of time
Taste Aversions
When you eat something, typically new to you, and then get sick after and blame it on something you ate, then you feel nauseous at the site or smell of that food
