secularization
a move away from religion as an organizing principle of society.
social pathology
a broad-based distress or disorganization within society
social disorganization
a breakdown of societal functioning
no-fault divorce
divorce granted because of marital breakdown rather than because of specific wrongdoing (ex: adultery) on the part of one partner or the other.
determinants
a actor that contributes to an outcome (such as divorce) without necessarily being the direct or principal cause.
predictors
a characteristic that is correlated with and predicts an outcome but may not be a direct cause.
macro level
the broad level of examining a social phenomenon, focusing on changes that affect society as a whole.
meso level
a middle range at which social phenomenon may be examined, focusing on demographics— the characteristics of the people affected.
micro level
the smallest level at which a social phenomenon may be examined, the level of interactions between individuals and effects on individuals.
socio-economic status
class; standing in society in terms of income, education, and prestige.
social integration
the state of societies that are slowly knit and stable, in which people hold similar world views and there is a strong consensus on social rules.
