Chapter 9 Flashcards
fundamental movement patterns
What are the 7 fundamental movement patterns
Squat • Hip Hinge • Lunge • Push • Pull • Rotation • *Gait
what is a common feature of fundamental movement patterns
the requirement to maintain your center of gravity over your base support
what is Valsalva Maneuver (VM)
A forced exhalation against a closed glottis
(which prevents exhalation). it increases intra-abdominal pressure (IAP), which helps stabilize the spine.
VM seems to be a naturally occurring reflexive
response when lifting loads of high intensity, but there are safety concerns
what are some safety concerns of VM
increased pressure,
increases health risks in those susceptible to cerebrovascular disease, cardiovascular disease, and hernias.
Who should avoid VM ?
novice lifters and people with cardiovascular health concerns
closed kinetic chain
exercised performed where the hand or feet is fixed and can not move, it is in constant contact with an immobilized surface
open kinetic chain
exercise where the arm and leg is free to move
