Natural law
The Roman view that all people are born with certain rights that the government should protect.
Republic
A flexible form of government by elected representatives that proved capable of military conquest and administrative efficiency. We are a republic.
Struggle of the Orders
The 200 year struggle after which the plebeians gained equality with the patricians.
Roman Citizenship
All men who lived in and around Rome gained citizenship which made all citizens equal before the law.
Greco-Roman Culture
A blending of Roman culture with that of the Greeks.
Pax-Romana
“Roman Peace”; a time of stability and prosperity beginning in the reign of Caesar Augustus.
Chosen People
The Jewish people who were chosen by God to be His people.
Senate
An advisory body composed of the most prestigious politicians in Rome and made major political decisions for the Republic.
