What was the Dred Scott Decision?

A

Dred Scott was a slave that had gone with his master and lived in the North for a long time. When they returned to the South, Scott sued his owner, saying the time that he spent in the North meant he was a free man. Roger B. Taney said that he wasn’t allowed to sue, since he was of black heritage.
