Use acceptance testing
done by users to establish whether the system meets their needs
Realistic testing
testing using realistic data and a realistic environment
Contrived testing
testing the system with as many unusual events as possible
Volume testing
To ensure that the system can cope with large volumes o data
Corrective system maintenance
carried out when there is a failure of some kind e.g. to correct a problem or error
Adaptive system maintenance
carried out to take account of changes in the processing environment (e.g. amending payroll with new tax rates)
Perfective system maintenance
carried out to improve the system (perfect IT e.g. using use feedback)
Ah-hoc outsourcing
to fulfil a specific need, usually short-term
Project management outsourcing
to manage a particular project
Partial outsourcing
one or more services are outsourced
Total outsourcing
All, or the vast majority of IT services are supplied by an outside company or companies
Multiple sourcing
different suppliers for different areas
Incremental sourcing
Progressively outsource different areas - can be used as a path to total outsourcing
Joint venture outsourcing
creates a new legal entity - ownership is shared between main and outsourced companies
ASP - application service provider
companies who offer software services, usually over the internet
