Physiological skill
personality - to undercover basic attitude profiles. Cattel p16 personality factors looks at such traits
Cognitive skill
concerned with the prices of thinking - IQ tests, aptitude tests
Proficiency skill
Ability to do the work involved
Psychometric skill
Establish a wide psychological profit - intelligence, personality etc. Myers-Briggs type indicator used to categorise people as one quality to the opposite
Face validity
does the test, on the face of it, measure the abilities of the candidate? e.g. does the maths test measure their maths ability?
Concurrent validity
how well do test scores accurately estimate an individuals current state with regards to the criteria?
predictive validity
occurs when the criteria measures are obtained at a time after the test e.g. career or aptitude tests to determine who is likely to succeed in certain occupations in the future
reward review
determine is pay increase or bonus is deserved - important motivating factor
performance review
for planning and following up training programmes
potential review
determine an individuals likely career path and help them achieve progression through the company
management lead appraisal
traditional approach where employee is assessed by a manager
self-appraisal
employee assesses their own performance, identifying problem and ways of solving them
multi-source appraisal
appraisal considers feedback from a variety of sources including customers and fellow workers
