Equipment checkout services and even a pro shop (equipment, sport and fitness supplies, toiletries, and apparel)
What’re some desirable characteristics of facility personnel providing informal sport opportunities?
Helpful, knowledgeable, good communicators, and skilled at conflict resolution
Is it worthwhile to have a manual for informal sport delivery?
Yes
What special rules should be implemented for children and young adults?
Require children be directly supervised by a parent or adult, designate time for children to use the facility, require parents to sign statements acknowledging potential risks of youth activities and awareness of user policies and procedures
If personnel are overly aggressive in policy interpretation and enforcement, then what will that provoke in participants?
Negative behavioral reactions
Is having written policies and procedures that address participant abuse of facilities, employees, and others enough to stop these problems?
No, personnel must see that these policies and procedures are followed (professionally, fairly, and consistently)
Informal sport personnel must ensure participants safety. In what ways can this be done?
Knowledge of basic first-aid, ongoing training in CPR, prevention of disease transmission, addressing safety hazards, addressing disciplinary problems, appropriately intervening in participant disputes before personal injury or property damage results.
What might be necessary in the event of a significant conduct problem or incident where participants are at risk?
Contacting police or other specially trained personnel
