Explorers will not operate Department vehicles unless authorized to do so by an Advisor. Only
those Explorers who have completed the LVMPD civilian drivers training course may operate a
Department vehicle. Explorers are never to engage in Emergency Vehicle Operation and Control. Explorers shall always exhibit courteous driving manners and regard the safety of other drivers and pedestrians. When a qualified Explorer is operating a marked patrol vehicle, the light bar will be covered utilizing a light bar cover

Vehicle Inspection

The Department vehicle will be inspected by Explorers to see that the vehicle is undamaged and
ready for service prior to being driven. Explorers shall be alert for faulty or inoperative equipment. Any damage or inoperative equipment shall be reported immediately. Any time a vehicle is used by an Explorer, an LVMPD Vehicle Condition Sheet must be completed and turned in to an Advisor as soon as possible

Unauthorized Passengers

Explorers will not transport persons in any Department vehicle unless such transportation is in
connection with official Explorer business and is authorized by an Advisor.

Question 4

Can Explorers leave Clark County with a LVMPD Vehicle?

Answer 4

No. Explorers are strictly prohibited from leaving Clark County while operating Department vehicles.

Question 5

Accidents with a LVMPD Vehicle

Answer 5

If a Department vehicle is involved in an accident while operated by an Explorer, the Explorer
shall immediately render aid to the injured, remove any hazards to life or property, and then
contact dispatch immediately. The vehicles involved should not be moved until a police officer
has arrived. Once an officer has arrived, ask him or her to contact the Lead Advisor as soon as
possible

Vehicle Operation

Should an Explorer get flagged/hailed by a citizen while operating a Department vehicle, the
Explorer will advise the citizen that they are not a police officer, but will have one enroute. The
Explorer will then notify dispatch via radio of the citizen requesting assistance and the citizen’s
location
