Chapter 7 - Starting, Ignition + Electrical Systems Flashcards
What controls the AUTO start of the engine?
The EECU controls the engine, the GCU controls the starter and ignition system
What 3 power ways can the engine start?
A/C battery, External power, the other engine gen
What does the starter-motor do?
Cranks the gas gen turbine rotating assembly (on startup or dry crank), at the end of start up when NF is sufficient it operates as a DC gen
Where is the starter-gen located?
on the left front face of the engine reduction gearbox casing
What controls the power supply to the ignition exciter?
The rotorcraft (self-sustaining)
How many ignitor plugs are there and where are they located?
Two, located by the start injectors (1 - 9 o’clock) areound the combustion casing
When will the EECU allow the engine to restart?
Gas gen speed runs down to below 17%
What position must the ECLs be in for auto start?
Flight
What position must the engine mode controls be in for manual start?
Flight
What does the PMA do?
Permanent magnet alternator, driven by the engine oil pump drive shaft, supplies the EECU once the gas gen speed is above 50%
What does the electrical harness do?
Connects the electrical accessories to the EECU and the aircraft circuit.
The harness that connects the engine to the EECU has extra shielding for integrity.
Where is the PMA located?
frount face of the oil pump filer support block. (the phonic rotor wheel is mounted on the oil pump drive shaft)
How is the EECU electrically supplied?
A/C 28VDC ESS bus during start and a PMA failure.
PMA above 50%N1
