What were some general characteristics federalists?
Federalists mostly lived in big cities, worked in commerce, and wanted more trade with other countries.
What were some general characteristics of antifederalists?
Antifederalists tended to be from more rural areas and viewed the federal government as disconnected from their interests.
Why did Congress add the Bill of Rights to the Constitution?
In order to reach a compromise between the federalists and antifederalists, James Madison proposed changes to the Constitution that eventually became ratified as the Bill of Rights.

The rights and freedoms listed in the Bill of Rights were important because they were intended to protect the freedoms of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, religious and political freedom, and protection from being forced to quarter soldiers—all ideas that were put forth in the Declaration of Independence.
