Chapter 7 lecture Flashcards
To articulate >
to join
gomphosis >
where teeth join with bone (peg and socket)
Can bone and cartilage form a skeletal articulation?
Yes
What is Arthrology?
the study of articulations, also called joints.
What is kinesiology?
the study of body movement… occurs at joints.
The greater the movement of a joint the less?
strength.
Synarthrotic joint >
immovable
amphiarthrotic joint >
slightly movable
diarthrotic joint >
freely movable
3 Structural classifications of a joint:
- synovial joint
- cartilaginous joint
- fibrous joint
synovial joint is not based on the type of connective tissue instead just not that ______ & _______ tissues are at a synovial joint.
fibrous and cartilage
- What binds connective tissue is fibrous tissue and there is no synovial cavity associated with the joint.
- Functionally, little or no movement.
- sutures in the skull & gomphosis
fibrous joints.
- What binds tissues in cartilaginous and there is no synovial cavity associated with the joint.
- Functionally, also little to no movement.
- pubic symphysis and intervertebral discs.
Cartilaginous joint.
What is a diathrotic joint?
a synovial joint(freely moving).
Tendons attach?
muscle to bone
ligaments attach?
bone to bone
Connective tissue pockets filled with synovial fluid and lined with synovial membrane. That typically lie beneath tendons or ligaments to helps reduce friction and help absorb shock.
Bursa
Joints:
Greater mobility=
Less mobility=
less strength
greater strength
Name the different types of synovial joints:
plane, pivot,hinge,ball-and-socket,saddle
Flexion:
decreases the angle between articulating bones
Extension:
increases the angle between articulating bones
Abduction:
to take away
Adduction:
to move in
Circumduction:
rotating an appendage
inversion/eversion
pointed sole medial/point sole lateral
doriflextion/planter flexion
Toe up/ toe down
Protraction/retraction (think teeth)
forward/backward
Elevation/depression (think shrug)
shrug up/ shrug down
Lateral flexion
think flexing arms
Pronation/supination
hand down/hand up
