Presentation?
A
Nebules containing ipratropium bromide 250 micrograms in 1ml or 500 micrograms in 2ml.

Indications?
A
Acute severe or life threatening asthma.
Acute asthma unresponsive to salbutamol.
Exacerbation of COPD, unresponsive to salbutamol.

Actions?
A
Antimuscarinic bronchodilator drug.
Salbutamol generally works quicker.

Contraindications?
A
None in emergency setting.

Cautions?
A
Glaucoma (protect eyes).
Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Prostatic hyperplasia.
COPD - limit nebulisation to 6mins.

Side effects?
A
Nausea. Dry mouth. Tachycardia / Arrhythmias. Tightness of chest. Allergic reaction.

Administration route?
A
Nebulise with 6-8L per minute of O2.
