Presentation?
Pre-filled syringe or ampoule containing 1 milligram of adrenaline in 1 ml (1:1,000).
Indications?
Anaphylaxis.
Life threatening asthma with failing ventilation and continued deterioration despite nebuliser therapy.
Actions?
Stimulates both alpha and beta adrenergic receptors, resulting in myocardial and cerebral blood flow being enhanced during CPR.
Reverses allergic manifestations of anaphylaxis.
Reverses bronchospasm in acute severe asthma.
Contraindications?
Do not give repeat dosages to hypothermic patients.
Cautions?
Severe hypotension may occur in patients on non cardio selective beta blockers.
Route?
Intramuscular via antero-lateral aspect of thigh or upper arm.
Initial dose?
500 micrograms.
Repeat dose?
500 micrograms.
Dose interval?
5 minutes.
Volume?
0.5ml
Dose limit?
No limit.
