Chapter 7 Definitions Flashcards
step length
the distance traveled between the initial contracts of the right and left foot
center of gravity
the point inside or outside the body where the body is equally balanced or where gravitational pull is concentrated
kinematic
the characteristics of movement related to time and space (eg, range of motion, velocity, and acceleration); the effects of joint action
kinetic
the forces being analyzed; the causes of joint action
stance phase
the weight-bearing phase of gait, beginning on initial contact with the surface and ending when contact is broken
swing phase
the non-weight bearing phase of gait; beginning at the instant the foot leaves the surface and ending just before initial contact
moment of inertia
the amount of force needed to overcome a body’s or body part’s present state of rotatory motion
reflex inhibition
a reflex arc prohibiting the contraction of a specific muscle or muscle group
