loss of the normal heart rhythm; an irregular heart rate
resonant
producing a vibrating sound or percussion
anoxia
the absence of oxygen in the blood or tissues
sputum
a substance formed by mucus, blood, or pus expelled by coughing or clearing the throat
peristalsis
a progressive smooth muscle contraction producing a wavelike motion that moves matter through the intestines
peritonitis
inflammation of the peritoneum as the result of infection, injury, or disease
bleb
a large sac filled with air or fluid having the potential to rupture
cyanotic
dark blue or purple tint to the skin and mucous membranes caused by a decreased oxygen supply
hemodynamic
the process of blood circulating through the body
dysuria
painful urination
chlamydia
a family of microorganisms that produce infection in the genitals and is sexually transmitted
ectopic pregnancy
the formaiton of a fetus outside of the uterine cavity
varicose veins
enlargement of the superficial veins
orchitis
inflammation of the testicle
pelvic inflammatory disease
an infection of the vagina that spreads to the cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, and broad ligaments
hypoglycemia
the state of decreased levels of sugar in the blood, resultign in fatigue, restlessness, and irritability; commonly associated with diabetes
dyspnea
air hunger marked by labored or difficult breathing; may be a normal occurrence after exertion or an abnormal occurrence indicating cardiac or respiratory distress
prodromal
pertaining to the interval between the initial disease rate and the onset of outward symptoms
hypercholesterolemia
a high blood cholesterol level caused by a high intake of saturated fats
sinus rhythm
rhythm of the heart, regulated by the sinoartrial node
dander
small scales from animal hair or feathers that cuase allergic reactions in some individuals
metabolic acidosis
decreased blood pH caused by an increase in blood acids or a decrease in blood bases
pulmonary edema
swelling of the lung and its tissues
