Explain and evaluate Shintoism
Shintoism the way of the gods originally was nature worship and developed into a cult of national patriotism. The sun goddess is the supreme and the emperor is descended from the sun god. Humans are good because they are potential divine spirits. A persons goal is to achieve harmony with nature, the divine spirits including ones ancestors, nature, and departed rulers and heroes. By performing Shinto rituals one may restore harmony with nature. The key result is that Shintoism develops one love for their homeland, strengthens loyalty to one’s clan and reverence for the emperor.
From 1192-1866,Japan has a feudalistic society. What was the life of the Samurai like? What code did they live by? What were their main values?
Samurai lived by Bushido “the way of the warrior” and unwritten code of conduct, emphasizing loyalty, honor, duty,justice,courage,horsemanship,fencing,jujitsu, instilled in patriotism classes in history, art, literature and writing.
