Chapter 7 Flashcards
reactants
the molecules on the left
products
the molecules on the right
if balancing really doesnt work
jsut use fractions and then get rid of them
reaction stoicheometry
using the coefficients from teh reaction equation in ordeer to calculate moles of a product and or the reactant
actual yield
the amount actually made
theoretical yield
the amount the equation says that you will make.
percent yield
actual/theoretical
limiting reagent
is the reactant that is limiting the max amnount of produciton (gets used completely)
find limiting reagent given grams of each
- draw an equation
- turn each into moles of the reactant
- turn each into moles of the product
- whichever one makes less is teh LR
find percent yield given grams of each and actual yield
- find LR
- use the Lr to calculate the theo yield
- the percent yield is equal to the act/theo
given g of reactants, and the % yield find the actual yield
- equation
- limiting reactant and the theo
- use algebra and the percent yield equation
given actual yield in g, % yield find grams of reactant
- equation
- use percent yield to find theo
- take it back to grams of reactant
