Follicular (first phase)
Day 4-14 of your period and you have low levels of estrogen and progesterone but a spike in FSH
Ovulatory (second phase)
Day 14- LH peaks and causes rupture of the follicle and release of the egg near a Fallopian tube (called ovulation) – women most likely to become pregnant on the three days before or on the day of ovulation
Luteal (third stage)
Day 15-28 - formation of corpus luteum (group of reddish-brown cells) they become a source of progesterone and estrogen and the decomposition of the corpus luteum occurs
Menstruation
Day 28 starts - the endometrium - inner lining of the uterus sheds off - low in estrogen and progesterone and so this trigger the beginning of a new cycle
Dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain)
Menstrual cramps - includes painful abdominal cramps and lower back pain during menstruation - may be due to stress, poor health, smoking, drinking - not all women experience this
