OCD criteria
- Obsessions and/or compulsions
2. thoughts or activities take up at least 1hr per day
BDD criteria
- preoccupation with one or more perceived defects in appearance
- others find defect unobservable
- repetitive behaviours in response to appearance concerns
- not restricted to weight or fat
Hoarding disorder criteria
- Difficulty discarding possessions, regardless of value
- need to save items
- distress when discarding items
- accumulation of a large number of possessions that clutter living spaces

Cognitive behavioral theory for etiology OCD
Functional responses for threat become habitual and therefore have trouble overriding them when gone
Cognitive model etiology OCD
Thought suppression makes it worse. Thinking about something makes it more likely to happen. thoughts are just as bad as actions
BDD etiology cognitive model
People with BDD are very detail oriented. Look at one feature at a time. Consider attractiveness to be very important.
Cognitive model etiology hoarding
- Poor organizational skills
- Problems with attention
- Difficulty categorizing
- Unusual beliefs about possessions
- Extreme emotional attachment to objects
- Avoidance behaviors
Treatment for OCD, BDD and hoarding
- Antidepressants
2. Exposure and response prevention
Criteria for PTSD
- Exposure to trauma
- 1 of the following: recurrent intrusive memories, recurrent distressing dreams, dissociative reactions.
- avoids reminders of the trauma
- 2 negative alterations in cognition and mood
- 2 changes in arousal and reactivity
- at least one month
Acute stress disorder criteria
same as PTSD but less than one month
Etiology PTSD
- Genetic: elevated tendencies to develop and sustain conditioned fears.
- Smaller hippocampus
- Severity of trauma
- Dissociative coping strategy
Treatment of PTSD
- SSRI’s
- Exposure therapy
- EMDR
