Chapter 6 Skeletal System Flashcards
1
Q
Skeletal system functions
A
Support Protection Movement Storage Blood cell production
2
Q
Hematoma formation
A
Blood from blood vessels -> clot formation
3
Q
Callus formation
A
Tissue that forms at fracture site- connects broken ends
4
Q
Internal Callus
A
Blood vessels grow into clot, macrophages clean up debris, fibroblasts produce collagen and granulation tissue, chondroblasts -> cartilage, then osteoblasts invade.
5
Q
External Callus -
A
Osteoblasts and chondroblasts. Bone/cartilage collar stabilizes two pieces.
6
Q
Calls ossification
A
Callas replaced by woven, spongy (cancellous) bone.
7
Q
Bone remodeling
A
Replacement of cancellous bone by compact bone. Sculpting of site by osteoclasts.
