Chapter 6: Learning Flashcards
Habituation
process of responding less strongly over time to repeated stimuli; form of learning
Sensitization
responding more strongly over time to a repeated stimulus – usually a dangerous or annoying stimulus
Conditioning
forming associations between stimuli
Classical conditioning (or Pavlovian conditioning)
process of association/form of learning in which animals come to respond to a previously neutral stimulus that had been paired with another stimulus that elicits an automatic response.
works on autonomic system
Unconditioned stimulus (UCS)
stimulus that elicits an automatic response
Neutral stimulus (NS)
j
Conditioned stimulus (CS)
a previously neutral stimulus (NS) that comes to elicit a conditioned response (CR) as a result of association with an unconditioned stimulus (UCS)
