Chapter 6 - Airframe Facilities Flashcards
What are the facilities of the centre fuselage?
Fuel bay Fuel replenishment points Transmission attachment points Picketing points Earth point Ground power socket U/C attachment points Jacking points Datum reference/levelling Signs and symbols
What are the facilities of the rear fuselage?
Transmission supports Gearbox mounting points Stabiliser attachment points Tail skid Radio and aerials Static vents Datum points Blade tie down fittings Picketing points Navigation lights Signs and symbols
What are the facilities for the front fuselage?
Jacking points U/C attachment points Landing lamp Navigation lights Signs and symbols Vents Access panels Drains Pitot head Datum points IC socket
Where are the drains located?
Water drainage apertures are located at the bottom of structural parts which are susceptible to the accumulation of water in order to avoid corrosion.
What are landing lamp used for?
They are used by aircraft to illuminate the terrain and runway ahead during takeoff and landing.
What are the positions and colours for the nav lights?
Port (red)
Starboard (green)
Tail (white)
Where can anti collision lights be fitted?
They can be fitted on the front or centre fuselage, upper or lower and on the tail of the aircraft.
What is the pitot head?
The pitot pressure is a measure of ram air pressure.
The greater the difference between the ___ ________ and the _____ ________, the higher the airspeed recorded.
Ram pressure
Static pressure
What is the pitot tube susceptible to?
It’s susceptible to becoming clogged by ice, water, insects or some other obstruction.
What are datum points there for?
Used to act as reference points when carrying out checks on the airframe to determine if the structure has suffered distortion, measurements are taken down and compared to those laid down in publications.
What are intercom sockets used for?
Used to communicate with aircrew whilst carrying out maintenance, also located towards the rear of aircraft in avionics bays or wing tips.
What Are the panels and doors usually secured by?
Screws or quick release fasteners.
What are vents?
Vents are essential openings in the aircraft structure linking otherwise sealed compartments to the atmosphere.
What are the 3 types of functions for vents?
Venting fuel tanks for atmospheric and refuelling proposes
Cabin/compartment air con
Static vents
