Chapter 6 Flashcards
What are the cardiovascular responses?
Cardiac output, stroke volume, heart rate, oxygen uptake, blood pressure, and control of local circulation
Cardiac Output (Q) =
Stroke volume X heart rate
How fast the heart beats
Heart rate
The amount of blood ejected with each beat
Stroke volume
At rest we are at how many METs?
1 MET
What is one MET equal too?
3.5mL of oxygen per kilogram of body weight per minute
Pressure that is put on the arterial walls when blood is ejected during ventricular contractions.
Systolic blood pressure…. Top number
Pressure that is put on the arterial walls when the blood isn’ being forced out during contractions
Diastolic blood pressure…. Bottom number
What are the 6 factors that influence aerobic endurance training?
- Altitude
- Hyperoxic breathing
- Smoking
- Blood doping
- Genetic potential
- Age and sex
More than 3,900 ft. will increase pulmonary ventilation and cardiac output at rest and during submax exercise due to an increased heart rate
Altitude
Taking in gas rich in oxygen when resting may affect exercise performance positively.
Hyperoxic breathing
Exercise performance will be acutely affected from tobacco smoking
Smoking
Input of more of your own, or someone else’s blood. It will stimulate the production of red blood cells and improve aerobic performance over a short period of time
Blood doping
Dictates the level of adaptations to training
Genetic potential
Max aerobic power decreases the older you are. Women’s aerobic power is 73-85% of men’s value
