Q

Expound on competition for resources.

A

With the inflow of foreigners into Singapore, there are:
-Concerns over standard of living
S’poreans fear that foreigners are taking jobs away. This has caused frustration and resentment towards immigration and its effect on jobs.
Another concern is areas of living space and infrastructure. There is an increasingly congested public transport system.

-Concerns over social mobility
Social mobility is the movement of individuals between different socio-economic status (high to low, or vice versa).
Income gaps between lower and higher income groups have climbed, making S’poreans feel that social mobility is limited.
