Chapter 5.7 Dominance Inheritance Patterns ✓ Flashcards
What are the three types of dominance
-Complete dominance
-Incomplete dominance
-Codominance
Define complete dominance
-A state in which both alleles of a heterozygous individual are fully expressed in the phenotype
Define incomplete dominance
Its when a heterozygous individual has a phenotype that is a mix of the two traits from the homozygous parents
Define codominance
Its when two alleles are completely dominant
Contrast complete dominance, incomplete dominance and codominance
In complete dominance, only one allele in the genotype is seen in the phenotype.
In codominance, both alleles in the genotype are seen in the phenotype.
In incomplete dominance, a mixture of the alleles in the genotype is seen in the phenotype
Explain why a pink snapdragon flower phenotype is an example of incomplete dominance
The heterozygous phenotype is a blend of the two homozygous phenotypes
