Chapter 3.4 + 3.6 - Coding and Non-Coding DNA / Proteins ✓ Flashcards
Define genome sequence
A genome sequence is the complete sequence of DNA bases in an organisim’s genome (the entire set of genetic material),which includes all of its chromosomes
What is coding DNA?
Coding DNA is the section of the genome sequence that codes for a protein.
What is non-coding DNA?
Non-coding DNA is the section of DNA that does not code for a protein.
What is the genetic code?
The genetic code is the term used for the way that the four nitrogenous bases of DNA are ordered.
What is a codon?
A codon is a triplet of mRNA nucleotides that is read by cellular machinery and translated into a specific amino acid.
How are amino acids linked together?
Amino acids are linked by peptide bonds
What are stop codons?
Stop codons are three specific base triplets that signal for translation to stop.
