Chapter 54- Community ecology Flashcards
What is community?
It is the assemblage of interacting population of different species in the same place and time.
What is community ecology?
It studies how different species interact to determine the relative abundance and diversity of species in a community.
What does ecology determine?
It determine:
- relative abundance
- diversity of species.
What are the different type of species interaction?
- competition
- Mentalism
- predation, herbivory, parasitism
- mutualism
- commensalism.
What is competition?
It happens when organisms compete on limited resources.
What are the two types of competition?
- interspecific competition
2. intraspecific competition.
What is interference competition?
it happen when individual interact directly with one another by aggression or intimidation.
What is the resource competition?
It happens when organisms indirectly interact with each other on the consumption of a limited resource.
What is fundamental niche?
It define the physical condition that a species could occupy in the absence of interaction with other species.
what realized niches?
It is the actual range of environmental condition where a species occur.
What is exclusion competitive principle?
It states that there no two species that have two identical niches can coexist indefinitely.
What is resource partioning?
It is differentiation of niches that enables similar species to coexist in a community.
What is character displacement?
It is the divergence of morphological in competing species.
What is predation?
It happens when one organisms capture biomass from another.
What is parasitoidy?
It is a form of parasitism where the parasite spend part it live cycle within the host that will eventually kills.
