Chapter 52- Introduction to ecology Flashcards
What is ecology?
It is the study of interactions between organisms and their environment.
What are the two types of ecology?
- Biotic
2. Abiotic
What is biotic?
It is interaction that occur between living things.
What is abiotic?
It is interaction that occur between organism and their non living environment.
How does the ecological interaction effect the species?
Ecological interactions determine the distribution and abundance of species, species diversity, flow of energy and nutrient cycling in and ecosystem.
What are the different field of ecology?
- Organismal ecology
- population ecology
- community ecology
- ecosystem ecology.
What are the different part of ecology?
- Physiological ecology
2. behavioral ecology
What is organismal ecology?
It investigates how adaptation of an individual organisms affect its reproduction and survival.
What is population?
It is group of interbreeding individual of the same species in an area.
What is the main goal of population ecology?
It aims to understand factors affecting population size and growth rate.
What does community ecology focuses on?
- It studies how different species interact and function as communities in a given area.
- it focuses on the factor the determine the diversity and richness species.
- it also study the succession.
What is the succession study?
It studies how species composition and community structure changes over time after disturbances.
What does ecosystem ecology focuses on?
- it studies the flow of energy
- also cycling nutrient within communities of organismal and between their environment
- food chian studies.
