On the island of Crete, south of Greece; this led later to Mycenae being created
Why was Greece composed of loose city-states and no single government united them?
Mountains throughout the country made it hard for the city-states to unite under one unified government.

During and after they united and formed the Delian League to defeat the Persian invasion; Athens benefited most from this golden age.

What was the result of the Peloponnesian Wars?
Greece experienced political decline and widespread poverty, which allowed new kings from Macedonia to begin to fight for control over Greece; Philip of Macedonia won, and his son Alexander conquered even more land and created the greatest empire that the world had ever seen
Hellenistic period-
Period during Macedonian conquests in which Greek influence spread and combined with eastern political forms and culture.
What effect did the Hellenistic period have on science, trade, and culture?
New advances in science were made, and important scientific centers were created (Alexandria), trade flourished, and new cultural developments arose.
