Abuse
Willful infliction of injury, unreasonable confinement, or punishment that results in physical pain/harm or mental anguish; depriving the person (or caregiver) the goods or services needed to attain or maintain well-being
Assault
Intentionally attempting to touch someone without consent

Boundary crossing
Brief act/behavior of being over-involved with a person; The intent of the act/behavior is to meet the person’s needs
(Going too far to “help out”)
Boundary sign
Acts, behaviors, or thoughts that warn of a boundary crossing/violation
Boundary violation
An act/behavior that meets your needs, not the person’s
Child abuse/neglect
Intentional harm of a child under 18; involves any recent failure to act on part of parent/caregiver; results in death, serious harm, sex abuse or exploitation; and presents a likely or immediate risk for harm

Laws concerned about relationships between people
Code of ethics
Rules/standards of conduct for people to follow
Crime
An act that violates a criminal law

Defamation
Injuring a person’s name/reputation by making false statements to third person
Elder abuse
Any knowing, intentional, negligent act by caregiver to elderly that can cause harm/injury

Knowledge of right/wrong conduct

Unlawful restraint/restriction of a person’s freedom of movement
Fraud
Saying/doing something to deceive someone
