Types of Health Care Agencies
Hospitals, rehab.&sub-acute care, Long-term care, SNF, ALR, mental health centers, HCA, hospice health care systems
Hospitals (define illnesses)
Acute illness: recoverable
Chronic: on-going; manageable
Terminal: no recovery
Rehab. & sub-acute care
Care needs fall between hospital/long-term (too sick/disabled to go home, but don’t need hospital)
Long-term care
Care needs range from simple to complex; med, nursing, diet, Rec, rehab, social, housekeeping, laundry included —- (NA things)
Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)
More complex care than nursing centers - residents need rehab/recovery; some stay, some go home
Assisted living residences (ALR)
Provides housing, personal care, social activities, support services, health care - in home-like setting (residents live there in apts)
Mental health centers
For those who have problems with live events - danger to themselves and others due to thoughts/behaviors
Hospice
Health care agency for those dying in ~6months- don’t respond to treatments
Home Care Agency
Services provided where they live
Health Care systems
Agencies join together as ONE provider of care
Patient-focused Care (nursing care pattern)
Services are moved from department to bedside; staff are cross-trained to perform basic skills of other health team members (lowers cost in services)
