Basic Form
The conjunction ו is spelled as וְ before most consonants.

אִישׁ + וְ = וְאִישׁ (and a man)

Before ב, מ, or פ (the bump consonants), the conjunction is spelled as Shureq (וּ).

מֶלֶךְ + וּ = וּמֶלֶךְ (and a king)

Before consonants with a Vocal Shewa, the conjunction is spelled as Shureq (וּ).
