Nouns with an initial guttural consonant cannot take a Vocal Shewa.
Hebrew: כּוֹכָב
Transliteration: kochav
English: star
Plural Form: כּוֹכָבִים (stars)
Nouns with unchangeable long vowel will not experience this
propretonic reduction
with the addition of the plural endings, the changeable long vowel is placed in an open, propretonic syllable. In an open, propretonic syllable, the changeable long vowel will reduce to a Shewa.
דָּבָר (davar) - “word”
דְּבָרִים (devarim) - “words”
לֵב (lev) - “heart”
לְבָבוֹת (levavot) - “hearts”
