IDEA Definition
disorder in one or more of the basic psychological processes involved in understanding or in the use of language, spoken or written that may manifest itself in the imperfect ability to listen, think, read, write, spell or to do math calculations
Learning disabilities do not include
problems primarily the result of visual, hearing, or motor disabilities, of ID, of emotional disturbance, or of any disadvantage

Criterion Referenced Tests
Scores are compared to a mastery level instead of another child’s scores. Predetermined criterion
Curriculum Based Measurment
Brief assessments that measure proficiency of basic skills such as reading, spelling, or math. DIBELS
RTI (response to intervention)
Tiers for instruction 1 (everyone)-3
RTI provides early intervention and helps identify children who do have disabilities more efficiently
Dyslexia
Developmental, language-based learning disability that affects individuals’ ability to read
