Define Denotative Meaning
Denotative meaning is the primary associations a word has for most members of a given linguistic community.
Define Connotative Meaning
Connotative meaning is any other secondary associations a word has for one or more members of a given linguistic community.
What Influences communication codes?
Gender, age, regionality (accents), ethnicity, race, education, and occupation are all examples of things that influence communication codes.
Define Code-Switching
Code-switching is when you shift to different styles, vocabulary, or syntax. Used to negotiate power or reinforce intimacy. (dumb it down for a dummy)

Jargon are special words or expressions that are used by a particular profession or group and are different for others to understand.

Co-Cultural theory is a framework designed to provide insight into the communication behaviors of individuals with little societal power.
Define Dis-confirming Communication
Dis-confirming communication is communication that dismisses the value of a person (goes against someones self-concept).
Define Confirming Communication
Communication that confirms ones self-concept or identity, mostly positive.
