Define Identity
Identity is the individual and social categories people identify with. Influences communication interactions and is prominent in expectations and behaviors during intercultural communication.
Define Reflected Appraisals
Reflected appraisals is the idea that self concept is affected by how you believe others view you.
Define Looking-Glass Self
Looking-Glass self is a reflection of how we think others view an individual.
Define Particular Others
Particular others are perspectives that affect us at birth. (son, grandson, mom, dad)
Define Generalized Others
Generalized others are secondary perspectives where society influences our self concept of how we internalize the society we grow up in and share that perspective as a social community.

Self fulfilling prophecy is the idea that if we intently believe that something is going to happen that it will.

A stereotype threat when you remind individuals of their stereotypes and it affects their performance. (good or bad)

Self-concept is your own impressions of yourself, how you are similar and/or different. (shaped through interactions with others)
Define Self-Esteem
Self-Esteem is your feelings of self worth.
Define Self-Respect
Self-Respect describes a person who treats others- and expects others themselves to be treated- with respect.
Define Performance Idenitity
Performance Identity refers to the process or means by which we show the world who we think we are and is related to self presentation.
Define role Expectations
Role expectations are various roles performed when communicating with others based on your role in society, (cops)

The nine types of identity consist of racial, national, ethnic, sexual, age, social class, disability, and religious.
