Define Paradigm
Paradigm is the belief system that represents a particular world view.
Contains commonly accepted basic assumptions of thinking and methodology.
Define Theory
Theories are statements that explain a particular phenomenon, supported by facts used to predict future observations behaviors.
Define Hypothesis
A hypothesis is a supposition or proposed explanation made on the the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.
Define Methods
Methods are the way data is collected and analyzed. This data would be used to prove or disprove a hypothesis.
Define Social Science Approach
The social science approach is the study of individuals behaviors. They observe behavior relating to everyday, real life situations. (Describe, predict and explain behavior). Uses Quantitative research methods.
Define Interpretive Approach
The interpretive approach is the study of rhetoric (persuasion). They focus on individuals in specific situations from the perspective of the communicator. (uniqueness, creativity not predictability). (qualitative research methods).
Define Quantitative Research Methods
Quantitative research methods are the process of converting date to numerical form.
Define Qualitative Research Methods
Qualitative research methods are the process of organizing data using non-numerical data.
Define Content Analysis
Content analysis is (rhetorical) and looks at the meaning of texts in their original setting as well as the accuracy of the text.
Define Ethnography
Ethnography is when a researcher decide to actively engage with participants to study a culture different from the researchers.
Define Cultural Communication
Cultural Communication is when people who identify with the same rules, rituals, customs and other identities communicate.
Define The Critical Approach
The critical approach is used to understand human behavior ultimately to change society. Focuses on how societal forces influence and interact with individual forces. Examines oppression and cultural participation. (the numbers and data)
Define Textual Analysis
Textual analysis is when you describe and interpret cultural products such as media or public speeches.
