Define “Immigration policy”
Singapore’s immigration policy is closely linked to the manpower needs of the country. Due to Singapore’s declining population and a brain drain, the Singapore government started to encourage another wave of immigration to Singapore.

The setting up the Jurong Industrial Estate marked the start of Singapore’s industralisation progamme. It began with factories producing garments, textiles, toys, wood products and wigs. In 1971, foreign workers were given permits to work in construction sites, factories and shipyards.
Define “Economic opportunities”
It is the employment positions available in another country which is not offered in the home country of a person. In Singapore, employment opportunities are readily available due to the large number of business that operate here.

The L’OREAL Group is a multinational corporation that has many brands offering a variety of positions for job seekers like counter managers, beauty advisors, managerial positions, etc.
Define “community support”
People of similar ethnic communties gather in certain districts, helping them to strengthen ties. Immigrant communities bring with them distinct national identities that can also include unique to their countries of origin.
Example of “community support”
The Myanmar Club’s main objective is to promote the welfare, education and advancement of all Myanmar nationals and former nationals or residents who are now residents or are visitors to Singapore.
Define “safe environment”
The crime rate is relatively low; safety and security are the considerations of migrants and immigrants when choosing a work environment.

Singapore has a relatively low crime rate. In 2012, 584/100000 people being criminals dropped to 549/100000 in 2013, by about 6%. Crime rates have been declining since 2005.
Define “Singapore’s education system”
The quality education that Singapore offers is what migrants look out for for themselves or their children. It is well-recognised and admired for its effectiveness and high standards.
Example of “Singapore’s education system”
Singapore is a well-known hub for quality education, attracting about 80,000 International students in 2014.
