Define “external security”
Strengthening the country’s defence and deterring potential enemies.
Example of “external security”
Singapore Army deters agression or secures a swift and decisive victory. It is to be ready and capable of conducting a spectrum of operations to defend the security interests and sovereignty of Singapore.
Define “internal order”
agencies focus on protecting citizens, property and whatever society believes should be protected.
Example of “internal order”
SCDF providees fire-fighting, rescue and emergency medical services; mitigating hazardous materials incidents, as well as formulate, implement and enforce regulations on fire safety and civil defence shelter matters.
Define “ensuring justice”
The judiciary independently interprets and applies the laws passed by the legislature fairly. Singaporeans will have confidence that the courts will judge people fairly.
Example of “ensuring justice”
The Family Justice Courts provides guidelines on what is defined as famil violence, who and how to apply for a Personal Protection Order(PPO). If the court approves of the PPO application, the court can take action to prevent or restrict a person from entering the applicant’s house or part of the house.
Define “providing goods and services for the public”
Governments devote significant resources to improving the well-being of their citizens. Citizens enjoy benefits from the provision of goods and services daily. These are provided or subsidised by the government.
Example for “providing goods and services for the public”
The government developed Singapore’s public ttransport network and continuosly invested in resources in making Singapore readily accessible, with approximately 4683 bus stops and 105 MRT stations as of 2014.
Define “safeguarding the interests of citizens”
Governments implement legislation to ensure citizens with a sense of security by ensuring no abuse by employers and security in old age.
Example of “safeguarding the interests of citizens”
WorkRight Initiative helps both emplyers and employees understand their rights and responsibilities. It also creates awareness of employment right amongst low-wage workers and better ensure retirement security for low-wage workers.
