What does protein do?
Helps with the growth and repair of cells.
What does fat do?
Provides energy and insulation for internal organs.
Name two kinds of vitamins and state their function and source.
Vitamin C helps with healthy skin and gums can be found in citrus fruits.
Vitamin D helps to build strong bones and teeth can be found in dairy products.
Name two kinds of minerals and state their function and source.
Iron is needed to make red blood cells and can be found in red meats.
Calcium helps build strong bones and teeth it can be found in dairy products.
How can you test for starch?
Iodine solution turns black to brown in the presence of starch.
How can you test for a reducing sugar?
Benedict’s solution turns a brick red in the presence of a reducing sugar.
What does copper sulphate solution test for?
Protein. In the presence of protein copper sulphate solution turns violet.
How can we prove food has energy?
By burning it and converting its energy into heat and light energy.
Why do we need food?
To give us energy and material for growth.
